I have nothing but the highest praise for "Dr. K and Dr. Ann" at Frontier Dental. The particular bone structure in my mouth caused my previous denture and partial to crack, and teeth to pop off prematurely. I joke with Dr. K about his 5 degrees in prosthodontics, but that is why I chose him to handle my situation.
Dr. K realized a metal reinforcement was needed, rather than just acrylic plastic. This was not covered by my insurance, but I was happy to pay it knowing my "new teeth" would be almost unbreakable. He knew a three-filling tooth was too weak to be an anchor tooth, so he had an oral surgeon remove it. Also, from his expertise in dealing with lower partials (which are easier to dislodge by the tongue), he knew to add little bumps to the teeth for the clamps to slip over, and he ground a little indent in the top of the two outside teeth, so the metal could seat in them. These were the little touches needed for a perfect fit. And indeed they were and are a perfect fit -- my upper denture and lower partial.
At first the gum tissue over the jaw bone was painfully sore, which is to be expected. But over the course of three visits, two weeks apart, he carefully and gingerly "polished" down the partial's bedding material to remove impact points. Now I am pain free when I insert the teeth, and chew on nuts, carrots, and other crunchies.
Throughout the meticulous process of measuring and remeasuring and fine-tuning the casts for the teeth, I was kept totally apprised by Dr. Ann of the fee for each item and what the insurance would or would not pay.
Lastly, but most importantly, I must say that I actually looked forward to each visit, because I knew there would be much laughter and geniality. Dr. K is a cut-up -- once he is done with his serious business of creating a perfect fit. And Dr. Ann (office manager) is extra friendly and welcoming, waving hello with both hands, delighted to see me, and I'm sure everybody else. She goes out of her way to be sure communication is convenient, whether it be by email, text or phone. There is no waiting over the weekend to get in touch with them.
A comment about COVID is in order. Ohio shut down dental offices just one week before my dentures were to be delivered for final fitting. So I was without the lower partial for two months, making do with my old denture and what teeth I had left -- while my new matching partial and denture were sitting locked up in the dentist's office! So this is why it took extra time for the gums to adjust to the new teeth, and an extra appointment to polish the teeth. COVID also played havoc with my insurance's fiscal year allowed payments, but there was nothing to be done about that.
Dentists being especially vulnerable to saliva and mouth spray, Frontier Dental made rigorous changes, such as having patients wait in their cars, and cleaning chairs and cubicles thoroughly between patients. This necessitated cutting their patient load considerably. They also did no aerosolizing treatments, required a mask when entering office, and levied a $20 fee to each patient for "Personal Protective Equipment" they had to wear, and discard, between patients. I felt very reassured that I was in no additional danger by coming to their office, and that I was not putting them in harm's way as well.
I do not hesitate to recommend Frontier Dental to anyone. People without dental insurance, however, will have to check their finances, and try to arrange a payment plan, or bank loan!! Excellence is not cheap.
